The Jesus Diet: Part 2. . . .
Previously on the Jesus Diet: Jesus converses with a woman of ill repute at Jacobs Well; speaks of a type of water that can regenerate itself and permanently quench thirst– calls it Living Water.
Jesus Disciples re-join him and they offer him lunch. He says to them, “I have food that you know nothing about. My food is to do the will of him who sent me.”
He skips the noon meal and yet he is full as though he had eaten. Doing the will of God is physically sustaining for him. In effect, Jesus eats lunch only without food. This one falls into the category of “things that make you go hmmmm.”
I’m not there yet– but I believe this is a real place. How can I know God in such a way that doing his will is physically nourishing and sustaining? Could it have something to do with fasting? It has everything to do with Jesus.
By giving up food for a period of time we move into the possibility of cultivating an appetite that hungers for something more sustaining than food. We develop a taste for transcendence and an insatiable longing for the intimate love of God.
I want to know about the food that I know nothing about. It would be a nice change to grow in Spirit capacity instead of in waistline.

I like this. Thanks JD.
OK, keeping it real… I want that. To be so in the flow with God I’ve got everything needed to do work (preferably His work) with energy.
But stress is a real spirit buster for me if I’m fasting. That makes me hungry
And what I get from your post is that, Jesus dealt with his everyday life stuff so connected to God that – he didn’t need anything else. So he didn’t need the food for nourishment – or stress relief.
Pass the water bottle please…
